Source The Ghana Report

A queen-mother has been arraigned before court for allegedly scamming 15 applicants who wanted to be enlisted into the security services and other institutions in Ghana.

The queen-mother of the Ayite Kortor Community allegedly collected GH₵93,000 from the complainants.

According to the prosecutor, the accused person informed one of the complainants about some recruitment slots she had in 2021.

She mentioned the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Audit Service, Ghana National Fire Service, COCOBOD, Bank of Ghana, SSNIT, and Narcotics Control Board.

She added that she has high-profile personalities in the seat of government, specifically in the office of the Chief of Staff.

The prosecution said that the complainant expressed interest after a conversation and receiving assurances from the accused.

The Accra High Court was told that a week later, the queenmother collected cash in the sum of GH₵93,000, as the initial payment from the complainant to begin the process.

She further collected 15 applicants’ certificates and application forms as part of the job requirement.

After receiving the money, she promised to secure the job for them within two months but failed.

She subsequently went into hiding and all efforts to reach her proved futile.

However, she was arrested after the complainants reported the case to the police.

Meanwhile, she admitted to collecting the money from the complainants but failed to secure the recruitment for them in her caution statement.

Appearing before the court, she pleaded not guilty to defrauding by pretenses.
