Razak Abalora joins FC Sheriff Tiraspol until 2025

The Moldovan top-tier club have announced the signing of the former Black Stars goalkeeper until the summer of 2025.

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora has officially joined FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the ongoing winter transfer window.

The 25-year-old has joined the Yellow and Black lads on a three-year deal from the Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko after passing a mandatory medical examination on Thursday.

The club’s official statement reads “We have a new keeper. This became clear after the Ghanaian goalkeeper underwent a medical examination, and the parties agreed on a transfer. Now Razak Abalora will become part of the big family of FC Sheriff,”

“The 25-year-old football player was born on September 4, 1996 in the capital of Ghana, the city of Accra. He spent his entire professional career on the African continent. Started at the East African Football Academy. From there he moved to FC Azam (Tanzania). The player’s last club was Asante Kotoko FC.”

Abalora had a contract which keeps him at Asante Kotoko until the summer of 2023 but the club has decided to sell him after his buy-out clause was triggered by the Sheriff Stadium outfit.

The 2021/22 UEFA Champions League campaigners decided to sign the former West African Football Academy SC goalkeeper as replacement for 39-year-old Serghei Pascenco, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Abalora has managed to keep five clean sheets in his 9 appearances for Asante Kotoko in the ongoing 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

Before his return to the Ghana Premier League in 2020, Abalora featured for Tanzanian giants Azam FC where he made over 100 appearances and also aided them to clinch Kagame Interclub Cup and Mapinduzi Cup in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Following his explosive performance in East Africa with Azam FC, he was handed a debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana in 2019.

Abalora made his first-ever appearance for the Black Stars of Ghana in an international friendly against Qatar. Be has capped four times for the West African nation so far.

FC Sheriff Tiraspol already have three Ghanaian footballers namely Edmund Addo, Patrick Kpozo and Abdul Basit Khalid in their fold.
