Residents Stranded As Flood Cuts Off Peace Town in Ngleshie Amanfro (Videos)

It was a nightmare for the residents of Peace Town, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, as the torrential rains on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, cut off the town.

Workers, students and other residents had to spend the night with relatives and friends outside their homes because they could not wade through the dreadful floods.

Residents who spoke to The Ghana Report this morning said they could not attend school or work.

Some students preparing for their 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination(WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) had to risk their lives to cross the water to their various schools.

Some workers were also compelled to find alternative means to go to work.

The residents indicated that the Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Sylvester Matthew Tetteh, has assured them that National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will come to their aid soon to provide them with a boat and other relief items.

It will be recalled that exactly three years ago, the same Peace Town at Ngleshie-Amanfro was flooded, and more than 100 residents were displaced.

Flood often occurs in that area because a bridge supposed to have been constructed to allow the water from other towns to flow freely had been halted.

Residents are appealing to the government to come to their aid to construct the bridge for them to avoid future casualties.
