An 80-year-old woman tragically lost her life when she attempted to separate a fight between her son and daughter-in-law.
The incident occurred in Guabulga, a town in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
The suspect, identified as Wuni Haruna, is currently in police custody.
The altercation took place last Thursday evening (June 15, 2023) when a dispute arose between Haruna and his wife.
Wuni Tuunaaba, the elderly mother, intervened to restore peace.
However, tensions escalated, and Haruna went into a room, retrieved a single-barrel gun, and accidentally fired it while allegedly intending to give a warning shot.
Unfortunately, the bullet struck his mother, resulting in her death.
Local authorities promptly responded to the distress call and apprehended the suspect.
An investigation is underway to gather more information about the incident.
The deceased, Wuni Tuunaaba, has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions.
