Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has administered the oath of office to Mr Kwabena Boateng, the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Boateng got the nod following the demise of the late MP for Ejisu, Dr John Kumah.

After the administration of the oath of office and secrecy on Friday, May 17, 2024, the speaker congratulated Mr Boateng for emerging victorious in the by-election and told the house that “he is now honourable Kwabena Boateng”, adding that, “Honourable member, you are welcome to the house, and I will give you your tools, which you have to hold jealously tight”.

During the by-election, Mr Boateng, who stood on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 27,782 votes, which accounted for 55.8% of the total ballots cast.

His closest contender, a former MP for the area, Mr Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who abandoned his mother party, the NPP, and entered the elections as an independent candidate, received 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the vote share.

The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of a former MP and Deputy Finance Minister on March 7, 2024, after a short illness.
