The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has advised the public to stay away from sagging or fallen electrical conductors during rainy days.

In a statement dated May 9, 2024, the company said going near these conductors could be fatal.

“ECG wishes to caution all and sundry to be extremely careful during rainy days not to go near any sagging or fallen electrical conductor since it could be fatal,” the statement said.

It added that massive rainstorms and winds cause items to fall on their conductors, leading to power outages.

The electricity supplier says the outages caused by temporary interruptions of their feeders are resolved soon after the storms.

However, permanent disruptions may take a while to fix.

The company further advised that any incidents of individual or localized outages, as well as fallen or sagging conductors within customers’ vicinities, should be promptly reported.

“Individual/localized outages and incidents of fallen or sagging conductors within customers’ vicinities should be reported to the Call Centre on 0302-611611, the nearest ECG office, or reach us on our social media handles via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for prompt intervention,” it stated.

This comes after the electricity company attributed the power outages experienced in parts of Accra to the flooding of seven substations after a downpour on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

In a press statement released on May 2, 2024, the company revealed that the substations that were affected include Burma Camp L, Station H -Dzorwulu, Gbawe, Station D – Avenor, High Street AH, La Trade AJ, and Lakeside Estate.
