Students forced to learn in corridor as new classroom block is locked for commissioning

The acting Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum in the Eastern Region, Margeret Darko, has ordered the immediate reopening of a three-unit classroom block in the area.

Her order came after Students of Akote M/A Junior High School were seen learning in the corridor of the newly constructed classroom block which was locked awaiting commissioning and handing over.

According to Accra-based Starr FM, the said classroom block was constructed by Kakem Construction limited, and its keys handed to the Municipal engineer.

The Municipal Engineer kept the keys while both teachers and students struggled to find a classroom for academic work.

Following this situation, teaching and learning were done in the corridor of the locked block.

Students were forced to carry plastic chairs and benches from their homes to school on a daily basis.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Ms Darko, who was furious over the matter ordered that the school block be made accessible to the students

She told Starr FM that she was unaware of the matter and laid the blame at the doorstep of the Municipal Engineer.
