Teenager stabs friend to death over loaf of bread

A teenager, Richard Baako, last Friday night met his untimely death when he was allegedly stabbed over a loaf of bread.

The 19-year-old reportedly had a heated exchange with his friend/suspect (name withheld) over a rusty knife his friend used to cut bread they had bought. It degenerated into a scuffle before he was stabbed, the Ghanaian Times has reported.

The incident happened at Kwamikrom, near Aboadi, in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The Assembly member for Aboadi Fasis, Osagyefo Stephen Rowell, said the suspect and his group of four friends, from Nkwantaesia, had returned from a snail hunting expedition at about 11 pm.

The group decided to buy bread worth GHC4.00 and began cutting it with the knife they used for hunting. The deceased complained about the rusty nature of the knife and insisted they change it.

That resulted in a scuffle which led to Baako’s death. “This resulted in a scuffle and both fell on the ground. In the process, the knife of the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased (Baako) in the chest, and he died on the spot,” he added.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Dr Mensah’s Mortuary at New Amanful, near Apowa, while I have detained the suspect at the Agona Nkwanta Police Station for questioning.

All effort to reach the police proved futile, the Ghana Times said.
