Tensions are high at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region following the alleged killing of two young men by the police.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

According to residents of Afoako, a suburb of Jacobu where the incident happened, the two were apprehended by the police on Wednesday night, but the next day, they were discovered dead.

This has angered the youth of the town, who have threatened revenge for one of the victims, 23-year-old Clinton Amoateng, an illegal miner, who they believe was killed unfairly.

They claim that Clinton had a cartridge on him.

“The police saw a cartridge and mercury on Clinton. They suspected he might be hiding a gun somewhere. So, they questioned him and asked that he leads them to where he was hiding the gun.

“We heard a gunshot in the middle of the night. We suspect the police might have pulled the trigger on the suspects,” a resident said.

Other residents who spoke to journalists identified the second victim as Agyemang.

They said he is known in the community as a convicted criminal.

According to sources, the police suspected them of being involved in many robbery cases in the area in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the family of Clinton is demanding justice and has called on the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to intervene.
