There’s absolutely no way John Mahama can win 2020 elections – Hopeson Adorye

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team Member and Parliamentary Aspirant for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency, Hopeson Adorye, has said there is no way former President John Dramani Mahama can win the 2020 presidential election.

According to him, the scars of hardship and incompetence left on the minds of Ghanaians remain fresh for many, as such, no way Ghanaians will vote for the former President now turned NDC flagbearer.

“John Mahama has finished, he can never win 2020. He will fall because Ghanaians know him and choosing John Mahama was a big mistake by the NDC,” Hopeson Adorye said in an interview with The Ghana Report.

Mr. Adorye urged Ghanaians to maintain the confidence they have in the NPP and the Akufo-Addo led administration to deliver the goods to ensure improved standard of living for all/

The governing party, he emphasized, has begun erecting structures to correct the mistakes of the John Mahama led government.

Meanwhile, the former president and NDC candidate for next year’s presidential election says the polls would be one of the most critical the NDC as a party would face.

According to the former President, the 2020 polls would determine the fortunes and future of the NDC as well as the future of the country.

Mr. Mahama was speaking in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, on Saturday, July 27, when he opened a three-day retreat to educate and empower Directors of Elections of the opposition party. The retreat was under the theme: “Repositioning the Election Directorate Strategically for the 2020 Elections.”

He urged the Directors of Elections of the NDC to discuss systems that could be put in place to effectively compile results of the elections as soon as possible from polling stations, collation as well as tallying centres.

The former president appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to address the issues raised by the NDC such as the gazetting of the full presidential results of the 2016 elections especially the polling station results and the need to improve the EC’s information and technology system to avoid compromising the election results transmission system during the 2020 elections.

He further called on the EC to create a platform for effective dialogue between the political stakeholders to address the concerns raised by the NDC so as to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

The stakes in next year’s presidential election are quite high as it will be the first time in the country’s history that an immediate past president will be contesting the same election.

Both the sitting president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Mr. Mahama will be asking the electorate for a second term in office.

The polls will offer Ghanaians an opportunity to compare and weigh the records of both candidates in order to make a choice as to who will be given the mandate to rule for a second term.
