Three suspected robbers, including Benin and Mali nationals, have been arrested for the death of an Accra-based lawyer on the Bole-Bamboi Highway.
The fourth suspect, who is currently on the run, is being pursued by the Savannah Regional police.
The Savannah Regional Public Relations Officer, Inspector Adjeikum Owusu, who gave the latest update to theghanareport.com, added that the law enforcement agency was working hard to bring all culprits to books.
“Some suspects were rounded up, and we are still carrying on with the investigations. We are still looking for one man, but we have three people in our custody,” he confirmed.
He said the suspects would likely be put before court on 31 May 2022.
Inspector Adjeikum withheld the names of the suspects because of the ongoing investigations.
An earlier statement said the deceased, Richard Badombue, was heading to Jirapa with two family members when they were stopped by the armed men who immediately shot him.
Together with the two other family members, the deceased was onboard a Hyundai Accent saloon car with registration number GN 9890-17.
On reaching a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri communities on the Bole-Bamboi highway, three armed men emerged from the bush and signalled them to stop using flashlights.
“When we were approaching them, my brother asked me if they were police officers. I said no, but he slowed down anyways,” brother of the deceased Micheal Badombue narrated after the unfortunate incident.
He added that once his deceased brother slowed down, one of the robbers just shot at him, causing the car to veer off the road and crash into a tree.
The armed men reportedly followed and tried to open the vehicle’s doors but were unsuccessful.
When the police arrived at the scene, the deceased was seen behind the steering wheel with pellet wounds spread over his left cheek.
The body has been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for preservation, awaiting autopsy.
