Tottenham close on Ange Postecoglou appointment
Tottenham are close to confirming the appointment of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou as their new boss, 90min understands.
Australian Postecoglou swatted away questions on his future before the Scottish Cup final against Inverness on Sunday which the Bhoys won 3-1, completing a fifth domestic treble in seven seasons in the process.
The 57-year-old was coy when asked about his future in the immediate aftermath of that game. When asked why he couldn’t banish the links with Spurs, he said: “Because I think I deserve to enjoy this moment just like everyone else. I worked really hard for this moment.
“I owe it to my friends and to my family. I get why you have to ask the question, but from my perspective, I deserve to enjoy this moment.
“There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by by being side tracked.”
90min understands the finishing touches are now being put on the agreement between Spurs and Postecoglou. The north London club had previously backed away from talks with Julian Nagelsmann, saw Arne Slot stay at Feyenoord while Mauricio Pochettino returned to the Premier League to take the Chelsea job.
Postecoglou has enjoyed great success since taking over at Celtic in 2021. The Scottish giants reclaimed the Premiership title in his first season before this season’s domestic treble. Postecoglou also enjoyed won trophies in Australia with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar and guided the national team through qualification for the 2018 World Cup before stepping down.
One immediate issue he will be faced with if appointed Spurs manager is the future of star striker Harry Kane.
The England captain is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, who are on the lookout for a replacement for Karim Benzema who will leave the Bernabeu this summer.
