The trial of the police officer who allegedly shot his girlfriend in Kumasi has been scheduled for November 13, at the High Court in Kumasi.

This is after the successful completion of the Case Management Conference (CMC) and the filing of witness statements and other disclosures needed for the trial.

The state is expected to call its first prosecution witness at the next sitting.

The suspect, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who stands accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, has entered a plea of not guilty.

However, the facts presented before the court revealed a stark contrast to the officer’s claim of innocence.

The prosecution said that he fired multiple shots at close range, resulting in the tragic death of the mother of one.

Court documents also suggest the accused used a service pistol to commit the crime.

The grieving family expressed their deep anguish and vehemently rebuked the accused officer after court proceedings.

One family member said, “You think you can just shoot anybody and go scot-free? We are angry. The deceased cannot rest until justice has been served. You can’t say you’re innocent. We won’t agree”.

An autopsy report released by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has identified six bullet entry wounds and seven exit wounds on the body of the deceased.

The deceased died of hemorrhagic shock due to multiple gunshot injuries, according to the Pathologists who described the manner of death as “unnatural”.
