Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has opened up about his controversial diss song ‘Try Me’ which was released in response to Yvonne Nelson’s claim of aborting a pregnancy for him in 2010.

The rap king said although he wrote and recorded the song in response to what his former girlfriend Yvonne said, he did not plan to release the song to the hearing of the public.

According to Sarkodie, he initially recorded the track as a personal response to Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, ‘I AM NOT YVONNE NELSON’ but wanted to keep it private and think thoroughly about whether to release it later or not.

“I did it just to hold on to it and see if I’m going to release it, but when it came out, I said let me just put it out,” he shared in an interview with Angela Yee on Power 105.1 FM in the U.S.

He added that he was on tour when he got to know that the song had leaked and trending on Twitter with several comments.

“Where I was, it was very late, like 2:00 am, and then I see Twitter going crazy, I had no idea because I didn’t give to…,” he said. “So I have like 2, 3 people that I don’t want to suspect because it’s going to create some energy”.

Sarkodie is currently on his Jamz world tour in New York City.

The over three-time VGMA awardee, in collaboration with TM Entertainment and Nayasa Entertainment, is expected to end the tour on September 3, 2023.
