Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly stealing an amount of GH¢21,000 from a fire scene at Daaban New Site, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, Emmanuel Akolobila and Yazeed Abubakar, allegedly stole money from a house on fire on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
A report by the police said a wooden structure behind the building, which served as a warehouse for clothes, caught fire on the said date.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel were called to the scene to douse the fire before it caused damage to the house.
The two suspects, who also pretended to be helping, took advantage of the situation to steal an amount of GH¢ 21,000.
According to Mr Justice Amoako, a resident of the house and the complainant, he was at church when he received a distress call of a fire burning his house.
He said when he reached home, he realised that the suspects, Emmanuel Akolobila and Yazeed Abubakar, had entered his house to steal the cash in his bedroom bag.
Mr Amoako then reported the issue to the police.
With the assistance of the patrol team, the suspects were arrested and detained for investigations, the police report said.
