Two dead in Bawku commercial vehicle ambush

A 43-year-old driver, Razak Abdul Rahman and his mate, Haruna Idrisu, 31, are feared dead after their vehicle was ambushed in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday, November 27, 2023.

According to reports, a blue and white Yutong bus was attacked Monday morning in front of the Veterinary Services Office in Bawku.

The driver was shot, resulting in the car crashing against a tree.

The car was later set ablaze after the security on duty at the facility left the scene, according to reports.

One Albert Nimora, 26, who was on board the bus, escaped unscathed.

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Constituency, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the recent shootings while confirming the deaths.

“I also equally condemn the infliction of gunshot wounds on the persons of (1) Musah Salifu (aged 50 years) and (2) Majed Moryure (23 years),” the lawmaker stated in a press release on Monday, November 27.

“I condemn this action which has the tendency to derail the improving security situation in Bawku.”

“My condolences go to the bereaved families. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Mr Ayariga added.

The former Information Minister urged the security agencies to maintain their vigilance in the municipality.

Peace had been reigning in Bawku until a Moshie tricycle operator was killed at Daduri on Friday, November 24, 2023, followed by today’s incident.
