Two persons have been found dead after flood waters swept them away in separate incidents following last Saturday’s downpour at Adenta in Accra.

The two victims are all males.

One has been identified as Mohammed Muftawu, a father of six in his 40s.

Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, the father-in-law of the deceased, Mallam Suleman, said the area floods whenever it rains due to the poor drainage that runs through Adenta and Nanakrom.

One such incident on Saturday, May 25, 2024, caused his drowning while he was moving to safety.

“Anytime it rains, they move to their friend’s house for safety. So, during the heavy rains on Saturday, they vacated the house, but Mohammed returned to change his clothes. He was crossing the bridge when a concrete block he stepped on caved in, pushing him inside the gutter.

“He couldn’t swim, so when he went under the water, he drowned,” Mallam Suleman narrated.

Mallam Suleman added that after they retrieved Mohammed’s body, they discovered another body nearby.

However, he said they are yet to identify the other victim.

Meanwhile, three persons were found dead after their car dived into a flooded gutter near the Abattoir Bridge on the Tema Motorway during the heavy rains.

The driver, Noel Adams, now deceased, according to family members, was last seen alive on Saturday.

According to the family report, Adams had picked up two girls from Tema and was heading towards Accra.

Upon reaching the Abattoir Bridge, the area was heavily flooded, blurring his vision, and he navigated forcefully through the water.

Unfortunately, their car veered off the road and fell into the gutter.

Another driver tragically lost his life after his Honda Fit car submerged near a bridge on the Accra-Tema motorway as a result of Saturday’s heavy rains.

The body of the deceased was found several meters away from his car on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
