WAFU B U17 Nations Cup: Laryea Kingston confident Black Starlets will host and win

Laryea Kingston, the head coach of Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, has expressed strong determination as his team gears up to host and compete in the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Nations Cup.

Kingston emphasized the team’s ambition to both host and win the prestigious tournament.

The Black Starlets are set to commence their campaign on Wednesday, May 15, with a highly anticipated match against Cote d’Ivoire at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Following this opener, they will face off against Benin in their final group-stage match six days later.

In a statement preceding the tournament kickoff, the former Ghanaian international exuded confidence in his team’s ability to clinch victory on their home turf.

“The boys are ready and we are going to take it a game at a time and then qualifying [from the group stage].

“After that, we chase the trophy since it’s been played in home soil, we have to be hosting and winning it.”

Additionally, the tournament holds significant stakes as it serves as the qualifying event for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s last qualification for this tournament dates back to 2017, when they reached the final but finished as runners-up.
