WAFU B U20 Girls Cup: Black Princesses advance to knockout phase after win over Ivory Coast

The Ghana U20 Girls national team are through to the knockout stage of the 2023 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls Cup of Nations tournament.

The maiden edition of the tournament is being staged in Ghana with matches being hosted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

In the opening match of the tournament, a week ago, coach Yusif Basigi’s team recorded a 3-0 win over their counterpart from Benin.

Their second Group A match played yesterday, saw the Black Princesses lock horns with Ivory Coast with the game ending in a 3-1 scoreline in favour of the host nation.

A brace from Maafia Nyame, who had previously scored in the opening game and another from captain Stella Nyamekye ensured Princesses continued their impressive run at the tournament at the end of the 90 minutes.

The victory means the Ghana Black Princesses have qualified for the semi-finals of the competition with six points from two matches, making them the overwhelming favourites in the tournament.

The team now awaits the results from the other fixtures from Group B to know their opponent for the next match.
