President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s dedication to improving the welfare and rehabilitation of prison inmates in the country.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of intake 31 of the Prison Service, which welcomed 450 new prison officers, the president emphasized the importance of implementing measures to enhance the conditions of prisoners.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted key areas such as healthcare, food security, education, and vocational training as crucial aspects in the progressive improvement of inmates’ lives.

Recognizing that inmates are the primary stakeholders of the Prison Service, he stressed the government’s commitment to their welfare, rehabilitation, and reformation.

He acknowledged the significant role played by the Ghana Prison Service in the country’s criminal justice system and security architecture.

He urged the newly graduated prison officers to treat prisoners with respect and uphold the nation’s laws while carrying out their duties.

The President stressed the need for officers to understand the magnitude of their responsibility and prioritize the well-being of the prisoners under their care.

As they are expected to serve in various prison establishments nationwide, President Akufo-Addo encouraged the officers to demonstrate practicality, innovation, and readiness to meet the demands of their roles.
