We are yet to receive the houses Ghana gov’t promised us – 1978 AFCON winner Anas Seidu

Former Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak player Anas Seidu has passionately appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to honour the Ghanaian players who won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to him, the team members were promised a house each, but that has not been fulfilled 45 years on.

General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, the late head of state, gave that guarantee to each Black Stars player if they won the championship, which they achieved on home soil.

Seidu asks His Excellency Nana Addo to consider his request urgently because most squad members are dying, and he also wants to see the promise fulfilled before he dies.

“We were promised when we won the 78 by Kutu Acheampong that he will give us one estate each, all of us. We are 25; it didn’t come. Rawlings came [as head of state] via a coup and that was all. We talk about it [all the time but] nobody intervenes.  We have our seniors; Ibrahim Sunday, Osei Kofi, Willy Klutse, and others,” he lamented on Ernest Brew Smith’s Show in pidgin English.

“They are alive. We talk but nobody minds us. Polo went to President Akufo-Addo. I think he talked about it but I don’t know if they will give. If they will give us cars it is ok, to build a house it is not easy. One car each is ok. Most of us are dead, including our number 4. Yes, I want the government to fulfill the promise before I die”.
