You don’t need a good voice to be a successful musician -Essi

While having good vocals is believed to be the measure of a good musician and how well musicians can thrive with their craft, Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste, Maame Esi popularly known as Essi claims having a good voice doesn’t in anyway define a good musician.

She indicated that many elements work together including good vocals as a “key instrument'” but that is not enough to guarantee a successful music path.

Hear her on this, “If you want to do music, there’s more to it than just having a good voice. The voice is like your key instrument as a musician, and the voice is also a tool, ” she said in an interview on Cape coast based Property FM.

She stressed that while talent was crucial, artistes must also be business-savvy to thrive in the competitive world of music.

“I’m saying if you have the voice, fine, it’s a plus for you. But then, at the end of the day, it’s not just about you having the voice; there is a business side of doing music,” Essi explained.

Essi urged her colleagues not to focus on making only music but also explore contracts, marketing, promotions, and financial management stressing on the need for artistes to be well-rounded professionals, capable of handling the business side of their music careers effectively.

“I mean everything is music, but it depends on how you’re trying to portray what you are and the message you are sending out there,” she remarked.
