Several houses were torched in some communities after a renewed conflict between the Komkombas and the Anufors in the Chereponi District of the North East Region.
The conflict that started on Thursday 21 July 2022, resulted from a dispute over a parcel of farmland between the Gbalo and Sagon communities.
Fresh violence is said to have started when one faction was spotted on the land that has been the point of contention for years.
There have been no reported casualties. However, properties were destroyed in the fire incidents, which also left several people displaced.
Some victims have left the affected communities for the main Chereponi township.
The police and military have been deployed to restore calm in the communities.
Background
The Komkombas and Anufors have fought each other for years over a 3-acre-land at Naduni, a farming community in the Chereponi District.
In 2018, tensions were heightened in the town following renewed clashes between the two ethnic groups which left three people dead and several others displaced after their homes were razed.
Efforts put in place to forestall peace seem not to be effective.
The situation has forced thousands to continue to flee the area, including teachers and health workers as there seems to be no end in sight to the conflict.
