Ghana high jumper Evans Cadman Yamoah has described his gold medal-winning feat at the African Games as a stepping stone for his career.

Yamoah won gold in the Men’s High Jump event at the 13th African Games after clearing a height of 2.23 Metres. Morocco’s Hammouda Saad and Benjamin Link Mpho finished second and third respectively.

By clearing 2.23 Metres, the former University of Ghana student set a new national record by smashing the national record (2.20 Metres) he set in February 2023.

Speaking to the media after the win, Yamoah immediately turned his attention to qualification to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“Right from here, it doesn’t stop. Plan on attending top notch competitions. If I don’t win, that’s fine, I’m just trying to get the points to qualify myself for the Olympics and this is the stepping stone for the Olympics.”

Yamoah competed in the Men’s High Jump on the penultimate day of the African Games that had Ghana win four gold medals in boxing and a gold in men’s football, women’s hockey and silver in men’s 3×3 Basketball.
