Zito proud of players despite missing out on CAF Confederation Cup final

Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito says he is proud of his players’ performance despite failing to reach the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Having returned from Egypt after a goalless draw in the first leg, the Still Believe lads went into the return leg in Kumasi with the advantage but things fell apart after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Goals from Hamza Mathlouthi, Samson Akinyoola and Mostafa Shalaby were enough for the 2019 Champions to secure qualification to the finals of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Zito said, “We should have won the game in the first half. We could have scored FOUR. I’m not disappointed at all. But I would have wished we had gone to the final,” said Karim Zito after the match.

“We never had this type of situation before. We didn’t panic even after their first goal. You could see we pushed and created a lot of chances.

“It’s a lack of experience. The boys only gave up after the third goal. I can do everything but if the players are not mentally stable there is nothing you can do.”

“We couldn’t make it to the final. But I’m proud of the boys, nobody thought we would reach here and I’m very happy. We met an experienced team and definitely, this is how it will go. We will know how to go about such games next time. So we can be proud of the journey,”

Dreams FC will now switch their attention to the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup, where they have reached the semi-final. The FA Cup holders could return to Africa if they successfully defend their title.
