Akufo-Addo accepts Alan’s resignation

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation from the office of Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

Kyerematen resigned on Thursday (5 January) after meeting with Akufo-Addo to personally inform him of his decision to leave office.

President Akufo-Addo thanked Kyerematen for his services to his government and to the country and wished him well in his future endeavours, a statement issued by the Office of the President said.

“The president has asked the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made,” the director of communications at the Office of the President Eugene Arhin said in the statement.

Long overdue

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (6 January), pollster Ben Ephson said Kyerematen’s resignation is long overdue.

“I can confirm that it’s true,” Ephson said. “It’s been too long in coming. We should expect a reshuffle in the coming weeks. By Tuesday or Wednesday it will be clear.”
