Celebrities don’t marry among themselves because of mistrust and jealousy —Akosua Agyapong

Veteran Highlife musician Akosua Adjepong has expressed deep concern over the burgeoning trend among Ghanaian celebrities, where most of them avoid marrying within their industry.

In an industry marked by its glittering facade, it is now prompted to reflect on the implications of mistrust and jealousy that are pushing many stars to seek companionship outside the limelight.

She believes the key driver behind this trend was the pervasive issue of trust that plagues relationships in the limelight, with celebrities still navigating the complexities of love and fame.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Akosua Adjepong asserted that the longevity of most celebrity marriages was rooted in the fact that the individuals involved opted to tie the knot with partners from different professional backgrounds.

Citing examples such as Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Edem, Okyeame Kwame and Kojo Antwi, she emphasised that these musicians married outside the industry, contributing to the success of their unions.

“I have observed for a very long time that celebrities enjoy their marriages and also stay together for a longer period because their partners are not also in the limelight,” she observed.

Akosua Adjepong was once married to Highlife guru, Amandzeba, and perhaps, with the benefit of her own experience, she explained that the prevailing mistrust stemmed from the shared limelight of celebrity couples, as constant public scrutiny, coupled with the challenges of fame, led to doubts and insecurities.

“If you do the same work that I do, there will always be trust issues. You are in the limelight, and I am too, so when you step out, I will always have doubts in my mind, no matter the trust,” articulated the Frema and Me Ye Obaa hitmaker.

Delving deeper, she pinpointed the inherent challenges faced by celebrities who married their industry peers, as the presence of enthusiastic fans, tight embraces for photos, and the potential for jealousy, create a volatile mix that could strain relationships.

“Ladies are always holding you tight to take pictures with you, and if I am the jealous type, it will definitely not work for us,” she disclosed, emphasising the relational difficulties within the industry.
