Charles Bissue fined GH¢500 in his suit against OSP

Source The Ghana Report

Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, has been fined GH¢500 by the Human Rights Court.

This is due to his failure to make a decision regarding his case, which sought to prevent the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from investigating and prosecuting him.

Charles Bissue had filed a writ at the court to stop Special Prosecutor Kiss Agyebeng from prosecuting him, following allegations of corruption and corruption-related activities during his tenure as IMCIM’s secretary.

Mr Bissue is therefore seeking a declaration from the court that upon a true interpretation of the OSP Act, 2017 (Act 959), the OSP does not have the power to review an investigation done by the police.

Also, he wants the court to declare that the OSP cannot investigate him without investigating Tiger Eye P.I. and Anas, the investigative journalist.

Additionally, he wants an order perpetually restraining the OSP from investigating him over the same issue investigated by the police.

But since the suit was filed in June 2023, the case has not seen a major progression, and thus the fine.

The latest development was made known by the OSP on Wednesday, November 8.

The case has since been adjourned to November 15,  2023, to allow Mr. Bissue to formally withdraw his lawsuit.

Below is the OSP’s post.
