Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has ordered the closure of courts in Ada, in the Greater Accra Region, due to a water crisis plaguing the town after the Akosombo Dam spillage.

The decision was reached following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, which has interrupted the supply of water to Ada and other areas.

A notice signed by the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela C.A Koranteng, (JA) announced the temporal closure.

The notice added that the courts will remain closed until November 30, when an assessment will be conducted to determine whether they will remain open or closed.

The closure affects the Circuit and District Courts in Ada.

Nineteen communities in Ada, are grappling with the consequences of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

The spillage has disrupted normal life, affecting over 6,000 residents, with more than 700 seeking refuge in three different safe havens.

The Member of Parliament for Ada constituency, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, emphasized the unique vulnerability of these communities, as they are situated at the estuary where the Volta River meets the sea, making them more prone to flooding.
