Chinese FA impose ban and fine on Frank Acheampong for punching an opponent in league match

Ghanaian forward Frank Acheampong has been handed a four-match ban and fined 40,000 yuan (US$5,580), for punching an opponent during a Chinese Super League match.

His punishment has been announced by the Chinese Football Association (CFA). However, the Ghana international is expected to adhere to the punishment.

The former Black Stars winger was captured in a Video footage not long ago, where he punched Chinese defender Gu Cao, who sent him to the floor when Shenzhen FC played Henan FC.

After sitting on the case, the Chinese FA has slapped the Ghanaian winger with a fine and ban.

Acheampong was sent off when his Shenzhen FC outfit suffered a 3-1 defeat to their opponent. The 29-year-old, who has been capped 23 times by his country, had never previously been sent off in a professional career featuring more than 350 matches.

Gu, a centre-back playing Henan, was also punished by the Chinese FA “for provoking Acheampong with insults” and banned for two matches, in addition to being given a fine of 20,000 yuan.

He moved to Shenzhen in April 2021 and has since scored 18 goals in 63 Chinese Super League appearances for the club.
