Coronavirus: Contact tracing difficult – GHS

The Ghana Health Service is facing challenges in tracing persons who may have had contact with those infected with the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19), the Director-General of the service, Dr Patrick Aboagye, has said.


“We have some difficulty. Some of them, it’s difficult to locate them. But, I can say that a significant number within the short time have been reached, and the team is still on the field giving us updates.

“It’s going on quite well. There are a few challenges. Some of them may not understand the reason and so, there is some apprehension, but once we get their cooperation, we move on,” he said on Joy FM.

On March 15, Ghana confirmed four more cases of the virus,  after the health authorities reported two earlier cases on March 12. This means the country now has six confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 15 countries in Africa have also confirmed cases with one death in Egypt.

Director for Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Badu Sarkodie, during a news conference on Sunday, March 15, 2020 said that the latest affected persons contacted 149 more persons.

The latest rise in recorded cases in Ghana has compelled President Akufo-Addo to suspend all public gatherings including weddings, funerals and religious activities.

He also placed an indefinite closure on schools across the country as a measure to contain the disease.

The directive applies to basic, second-cycle and tertiary institutions across the 16 regions of the country.

    Am Edem from Tema.Banning the entry of travellers from coronavirus hit countries is the best measure the government has taken so far to control the spread of the virus. This should have been done long ago.

    We will continue to pray fervently for our motherland Ghana. We trust that all these would end soon so we can return to our daily activities.
