Court strikes out four witness statements against Kwesi Nyantakyi

The High Court in Accra is currently awaiting the outcome of the Court of Appeals decision in the case involving investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, before proceeding with the case.

The court had set April 30, 2024, as the deadline for the first witness to appear, or the accused persons will be discharged and the case dismissed.

The accused’s lawyer has requested the court to dismiss the case, citing the inconvenience caused by the travel required for the second accused, Abdulai Alhassan, and the delay in the prosecution presenting their case.

The court, however, has received letters from the state attorney requesting adjournments to May 15 and May 22, 2024, due to official assignments.

The court has been informed of pending interlocutory appeals by both parties, especially by the first accused person, concerning the testimony of the first witness.

Additionally, the court has proceeded to strike out witness statements of four other witnesses who have not been presented to testify despite repeated orders to do so. The case has been adjourned to June 10, 2024.
