COVID-19: German Embassy supports KCCR with €650,000 to help boost capacity

The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), one of the two institutions testing Ghana’s coronavirus suspected cases, has received €650,000 grant from the German government to support Ghana’s COVID-19 fight.

The grant is a rapid response facility from Germany to help the centre modernise its facilities and buy consumables needed to conduct more tests in the country.

The Germany Embassy in Ghana in a Facebook post stated that “As a rapid response measure to fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana, the German Government made available a 650.000 EUR grant to support the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) to modernize its technical facilities and to buy consumables and reagents for more testing of potential COVID-19 cases.”

It also mentioned that “the institute’s capacity to support fast isolation of infected people will be further strengthened” as a result of the grant.
