Drastic situations need drastic measures – DMB the visionary leader to avert Ghana’s woes

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is indeed a visionary leader, the kind of leader Ghana needs for her breakthrough going into the future.

After the Wednesday, February 72024 presentation on “Ghana’s Next Chapter” by His Excellency the Vice President and the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, many pundits, more especially the NDC are plunged into a state of confusion.

Showing incoherence, and lack of understanding of the VISION (Ghana’s Next Chapter) as articulated by the visionary man at that. Of course, I am not surprised by their responses, given what they have offered over their years of reign in our beloved country. Clearly, they are scared they will never again take charge.

In some of their rebuttals, they wondered; “where was he all this while?”, “the driver’s mate cannot be allowed to lead”, “is he distancing himself from the President’s decision?”, “he’s made a mockery of himself”, and “he’s thrown his boss under the bus”. Of course, as the Vice president and the head of “Economic Management Team,” Dr. Bawumia only has an administrative and advisory responsibility to His Excellency the President in accordance with the constitution of Ghana articles 57 and 58.

In fact, the rebuttals are the very reasons why he should be our next president. This is an intelligent man who understands “drastic situations and drastic measures”, in other words, one may not agree with certain measures but understands the need to accept them as temporal measures. A thing the NDC technocrats struggle to understand. Yes! In Dr. Bawumia’s lectures leading to the 2016 elections, he made comments in those lectures that are being used against him today. Those statements were true then, and are still true now, and he stands by them, hence, the “Ghana’s Next Chapter”.

The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, after taking over a very messy economy, was on its way to fixing the messed economy between 2017 and 2020. Then came the “drastic situation” (the pandemic and the Russian – Ukraine war) that exacerbated the already volatile (the huge debt servicing) situation the NDC left behind, leading to the “drastic measures” such as the imposition of the e-levy, the need for the IMF bail-out and subsequently, the need for other taxes and measures to help salvage the problem.

Drastic measures are tough but temporary, needed to salvage very drastic situations such as was caused by the Mahama-led NDC administration and furthermore, exacerbated by the global crisis (the pandemic and the Rusian-Ukraine war). Drastic measures are usually not pleasant, but necessary. Its adverse effect can be dire; hence, the difficulties Ghanaian citizens are currently facing, and it needs very visionary people like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to direct the affairs into a safe landing and to project the country into an everlasting solution.

Yes, things are very hard during this drastic measure situation, but would you rather pay electric bills without the electricity itself or pay VAT on electricity for 24/7 electricity? Would you rather have a fuel shortage or pay more taxes for 24/7 fuel availability? Would you rather have employment frozen or pay e-levy? Would you rather have brilliant students drop out of school for lack of the ability to afford the cost of their education, or have a free education? These are just to name a few of the issues in the Mahama-led previous administration, as against the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia-led administration.

The kind of Ghana that was explained by His Excellency the Vice President in his lectures leading to the 2016 election which caused electorates to vote massively for the NPP is still on course and requires the same visionary man to continue from where his boss (H.E Nana Adda Danquah Akufo-Addo) will be ending. To answer the questions indicated in the second paragraph of this write-up, the Vice President has not watched on and/or participated in causing pain to the good people of Ghana with the “drastic measures” thus far but has in humility subjected himself to accepting the need for such drastic measures. As visionary as he is, he has therefore outlined measures to bounce the country back into the Ghana he has since envisaged.

The reason the opposition calls him “a liar” is simply because they do not know how to reverse adverse situations. They therefore get set aback in thoughts as to how one can envisage reversing tough situations. For example, the “dumsor” problem would probably not have been solved if NPP had not come to power, employment would probably have been frozen by now, nursing and teacher training allowances would have still been cancelled, fuel shortages would still have been a thing and many more.

Dr Bawumia, understanding that “drastic measures” are only for a short term and that was why used a conditional clause in addressing the problems in his speech, for example; where he said; “I will cancel VAT on electricity if they are still there.” Clearly, he is on a mission to make Ghana a working country where citizens will live their dreams. This is the man for a better Ghana, this is the Vision Ghana needs, this is the future Ghanaians want to see, this is the dream Ghanaians want to live. It is indeed Possible! Let us ignore the noise (The NDC)!! Let us vote Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and retain the NPP to break the 8.

God Bless our Homeland Ghana!
