EC dismisses viral video alleging ballot box stuffing

Source The Ghana Report

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has reacted to a viral video of a man allegedly stuffing a ballot box at one of the polling stations during the recent by-election at Ejisu.

According to the EC, the video is fake and is aimed at tarnishing the image and credibility of the commission.

In a press statement issued on May 2, the Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey clarified that the video in question is not related to the EC’s activities or the Ejisu by-election.

The Commission also debunked the video’s authenticity, stating that the official in the video is seen wearing a green vest, while the Commission uses blue vests for its operations.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media depicting a polling station in an enclosed area. The video shows a man stuffing ballot papers into a ballot box.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that the said video has nothing to do with the operations of Ghana’s Electoral Commission let alone the Ejisu by-election,” parts of the statement read.

The EC emphasized the importance of verifying information before concluding and assured the public of its commitment to transparency and fairness in electoral processes.
