Fatawu Issahaku’s Leicester move in danger over club’s breach charges – Report

Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, on loan at Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon, faces uncertainty about his potential permanent move to Leicester because the English club has been charged with breaking financial rules.

Portuguese media are reporting that the club is concerned about the impact on the player’s future.

Leicester City, accused of breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules, faces an independent commission inquiry and a player registration embargo by the English Football League.

The club’s £92.5m pre-tax loss in 2022, a £60m increase from the previous year, was attributed to retaining key players and team improvements.

Between 2016-and 2020, Leicester earned £225m from player sales but overspent on new signings from 2021. Legal action against the Premier League and EFL has been initiated by the club.

Abdul Fatawu’s loan deal includes a clause for a permanent move to Leicester if they secure promotion, with Sporting Lisbon seeking a €17m fee. A potential return to Sporting Lisbon for Fatawu is speculated.
