Father of Boy Attacked With Acid Seeks Justice

Gideon Wunduwa, father of a 14-year-old boy who was attacked with acid at Nalerigu is calling on the Ghana Police Service in the North East region to arrest the suspect who attacked his son.

The 14-year-old boy had his hand and a leg amputated due to the severity of the acid attack by the suspect one Ibrahim Salifu, a teacher at the Nalerigu Senior High School.

The boy is currently battling for his life at the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu in the North East region.

A visit to the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu by DGN Online saw the victim in severe pain , constantly sweating profusely and crying.

Medical doctors have indicated that the victims other leg is likely to be amputated if his situation does not improve.

In an exclusive interview with DGN Online the father of the victim , Mr. Wunduwa said his son went out in search of scraps when he came across some tin containers but due to the large number he decided to use a bicycle which was standing closer to him to transport the items and when he was returning the bicycle the suspect met and accused him of stealing the bicycle.

According to him , the suspect and two others sent his son to a hideout where he was allegedly tortured severely before the acid was poured on his hand and leg.

He indicated that the son was unconscious and left to die by the suspect and the two other at the scene.

“It was somebody who saw my son lying down and brought him to the Baptist Medical Centre.”

The victims father called on Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) , Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Ghana Police Service to come to the aid of the boy and that all the family needs is justice for the boy.

“ All we need is justice ,I am not happy because the police are delaying the case the one who was handling the case I am told is no more in the region and the man who did this to my son is walking freely in Nalerigu town here.”

He threatened to take the law into his own hands should the police fail to give the boy justice.

Mr. Wunduwa revealed that the police in Nalerigu arrested the suspect but were compelled to release him due to some interference from chiefs and politicians in the area.

“ They are trying to use the Nayiri to overpower myself and the police so even if it becomes critical for me to go to Accra and ensure that this case doesn’t die I am prepared to do so because the way the boy is lying down he cannot do anything again.”
