Fresh spike in COVID-19 cases as Ghana’s active cases increase by 31

Ghana is recording a new wave of coronavirus infections, following a trend of fresh cases spiking across the world.

From 25 cases recorded within a week, the latest update suggested that 31 cases were recorded on a single day on October 29.

As of October 18, the country had 382 cases of COVID-19 but exactly two weeks later that has almost doubled to 620.

That means in the last 15 days, the country had recorded 238 cases.  The figure means on the average the country recorded almost 16 cases daily in the last two weeks.

That has become a headache for medical experts.

They are warning against the public letting down their guard, as fewer people adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, particularly nose mask-wearing.

But others believe that the opening of the Kotoka International Airport to foreign travels may also account for the increase in the country’s latest case count.

Traveller’s arriving in the country are expected to test for COVID-19. Those with clean bill of health are allowed to continue the journey while positive cases are transferred to treatment centres.

Ever since the government opened the Kotoka International Airport on September 1, at least 135 cases have been recorded at the airport.

Ghana’s total confirmed cases stand at 48,200 and recoveries 47,260 as of November 2, 2020.

The number of death has also increased to 320.

The second spike of COVID 19 cases in European countries have led to a second lockdown as England, France and other countries had had to take the decision to avert another chaotic panic and high death tolls in these countries.

France

Until  December 1, people in France will only be allowed to leave their homes to buy essential goods, for medical reasons, and to exercise for an hour a day.

England

Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced a four-week national lockdown on Sunday, November 1, to prevent a “medical and moral disaster” for the NHS.

According to him, this year’s Christmas festivities may be “very different”.

After 2 December, the restrictions would be eased and regions would go back to the tiered system, he said.

Maryland in the United States recorded more than 800 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, November 1  data from the state’s health department showed.

The state had 146,145 coronavirus cases, an increase of 864 in the past day, and an additional four deaths, bringing the total to 4,004 deaths.

Poland and Spain

Poland in less than three weeks recorded double its coronavirus cases.

Spain has declared a national state of emergency and imposed a night-time curfew in an effort to help control a new spike in Covid-19 infections.
