GFA reschedules launch of Normalisation Cup competition

The launch of the Normalisation Cup committee has been postponed by the Ghana FA’s. The announcement was put out on Monday on the Ghana FA’s website and Twitter handles.

Even though there is no official explanation for the decision, it is believed that the decision of the 16 Ghana Premier League clubs to pull out of the competition is the reason for the latest development.

The FA’s statement on its website reads:

“The Ghana Football Association has rescheduled the launch of the GFA Special Competition.

A new date for the launch will soon be announced

We sincerely apologize to our media friends and stakeholders for the inconvenience.”

The clubs stated their displeasure at the format of the competition via a letter to the Normalisation Committee and went on to say they would not play if no changes were made.

The format of the competition was to have 48 Division One League clubs and 16 Premier League play together in a group/ knockout competition.

But the Premier League clubs wanted a competition of their own and decided to opt out of the plans of the normalisation committee.

The  announcement of the postponement of the launch of the competition did not contain any hints of a new date.
