Ghana football must undergo a “comprehensive transformation” – Sports Minister

Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to adopt a fresh approach to football governance in the country.

Speaking at the GFA’s 29th Ordinary Congress held in Kumasi, Mr Ussif emphasized the need for a comprehensive transformation of Ghana’s football landscape.

During his address, Mr Ussif stressed the importance of developing strategies that would enhance the appeal, competitiveness, and financial sustainability of domestic leagues.

He highlighted that relying solely on government investment in infrastructure would not be sufficient to elevate Ghanaian football and position it to compete effectively on the international stage.

“We must undergo a comprehensive transformation of our football landscape,” Ussif stated.

“The Ghana Football Association must take a critical look at our current approach and embrace a new vision for the future,” he added.

“Our Premier League Clubs have lost their competitive edge, and it is time to reclaim our position among Africa’s best.
