COP George Alex Mensah, a senior police officer implicated in a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has alleged that some police officers have affiliations with either the New Patriotic Party or National Democratic Congress.
When asked if some police officers are affiliated to some political parties, he said “Mr. Chairman, I will not be a hypocrite, we have it. We have some of our people who resigned within two weeks went and contested for MPs, when they were supposed to have been card-bearing members for five years.”
COP Mensah made the claim when he appeared before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee probing the issue on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Following public reaction, Parliament set up the Committee, chaired by the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea, to delve into the issue.
The panel has the mandate to investigate both the authenticity of the leaked tape and the allegations that have captured the nation’s attention.
The Committee is to submit its report on September 10.
