Gov’t Takes Action To Evacuate Nationals From Sudan Amidst Deadly Clashes

Source The Ghana Report

The government has taken action to evacuate its nationals from Sudan, where a deadly conflict has been ongoing for the past week between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

The conflict has primarily affected civilians, with the capital city of Khartoum at the epicenter of the violence.

Numerous Ghanaian nationals, including students, have been caught in the crossfire, prompting the government to act swiftly.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a statement dated April 23, said, the Honorary Consulate of Ghana in Khartoum has confirmed that all Ghanaian nationals in the country are safe.

However, the Ghana Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, which is concurrently accredited to Sudan, is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the Honorary Consulate to coordinate the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals.

It added that the government is currently making arrangements to secure their safe passage to Ethiopia.

The Ghanaian government has assured the general public, the families, and acquaintances of Ghanaians in Sudan that it is doing everything possible to ensure their safety.

The government has also joined the international community in appealing to the warring factions to stop the fighting and allow negotiations to resume for the sake of peace and the safety of all people in the Sudan.

Below is the statement to that effect
