Husband who butchered wife at Nungua remanded

Source The Ghana Report

A man identified as Isaac Newton Kumah, accused of killing his 25-year-old wife at Nungua, has been remanded to police custody by the Teshie Nungua District Court.

He allegedly butchered his wife, Eunice Ameh Narh, after she filed for a divorce and inflicted cutlass wounds on his wife’s stepfather.

The suspect was arraigned before the court on Wednesday, May 3, on charges of murder and causing unlawful harm.

Appearing before the court, he pleaded not guilty to the second charge of causing unlawful harm to the deceased’s stepfather.

However, his plea for the murder was not taken as the court lacks jurisdiction over such matters.

He is to reappear in court on May 22, 2023.

Speaking after the proceedings, the father of the deceased, Michael Teye Narh, said he had hopes that the prosecutors would get a fair judgement for the family.

According to the family, the couple had been married for four years with two children, a three-year-old son and a one and half-year-old daughter.

They alleged that before Eunice filed for divorce from her violent husband, she had suffered a series of physical and mental abuses.

She is said to have moved in with her stepfather with the children following years of domestic abuse by her husband.

The husband, unhappy with the situation, is said to have taken custody of their three-year-old son but consistently left him in the care of others.

Isaac Newton Kumah inflicted machete wounds on the 25-year-old when she attempted to serve him with a letter from Legal Aid to take custody of their three-year-old son on Friday, April 28.
