The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly outline an effective plan to address the ongoing impasse regarding the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Dr. Yohuno expressed concern that the continued delay by Ghana’s electoral management body in finalising the results poses a risk to public trust in the nation’s democratic framework.

Ahead of a scheduled meeting with the EC, he emphasised the pressing nature of this issue.

“The EC must provide the National Election Security Taskforce with a roadmap for the formalisation of the collation.

“This is a pivotal moment. The way we handle the collation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country. It will set the tone, not only for this election but also for public confidence in the years to come,” IGP remarked.

He further called on all involved parties to seek a peaceful and timely resolution: “Let us secure not just the ballot boxes but also the belief in the system. Let us not protect just physical lives but also the spirit of democracy.”

Currently, Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra region remains the only constituency without parliamentary representation out of Ghana’s 276 constituencies, due to unresolved disputes from the 2024 election.

Meanwhile, Ewurabena Aubyn, the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress, and Akua Afriyie have erected billboards claiming victory, even though the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to declare the final results of the parliamentary election.
