The Ministry for the Interior has declared Monday, January 8, 2023, a public holiday.

A statement signed by the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, said Sunday, January 7, 2024, marks Constitution Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday.

However, since the day falls on a Sunday, the President “has by Executive Instrument(E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 8th January, 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such through out the country”.

This holiday serves as a recognition of the 4th republican constitutional dispensation of Ghana which started on January 7, 1993.

Constitution Day in Ghana marks the first day of a new parliament after every election year when the old parliament of Ghana is dissolved at midnight on January 6 after elections.

The day is also celebrated to recognize the country’s effort to maintain and sustain the 4th republic over the years.
