Kasoa again! Teenager sets 10-year-old boy ablaze

A 10-year-old has been burnt beyond recognition by a teenager, even before the dust settles on the murder of a boy of the same age in Kasoa.

The suspect, without hesitation, is reported to have thrown a firebomb at the innocent victim resulting in near-death burns.

The incident occurred at Amanfrom close to Kasoa, resulting in serious burns from the head, side of the face, ear and all the way to the back and buttocks of the victim.

As the toddler struggles for life, his attacker is still walking free, occasionally poking fun at the victim’s family.

Crime, teens, and 10-year-old victims now go hand-in-hand with two attacks recorded in less than a month at Kasoa and its environs.

Teenagers seem to be taking the mantle from older folks to launch day-light assault without regard to human life.

The 31-year-old mother of the victim, Charity Amankwah, said the incident occurred at about 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

The boy had gone on an errand when he met the suspect, Hammer.

She recounted that Hammer threw a broken bottle containing petrol with fire at his son without provocation.

The trader explained that the other children at the scene confirmed that her son did nothing to Hammer to warrant the attack.

They had to rush the boy quickly to the Amanfrom hospital to save his life. Charity’s husband, a taxi driver, has spent over GHC4,000 on treatment, with more bills piling up.

The suspect lives in the same vicinity, and both families know each other.

After the incident was reported at the police station on Monday, March 22, there were conflicting reports on the suspect’s age.

The suspect’s mother had earlier said he was 18 years old, but the father maintained that he was 14 years old, and so he was a minor.

The police then decided to treat the incident as a juvenile case.

“We don’t know what is happening. The police authority must act on this case because it is taking too long, and my son, who is in Class Four, is suffering and cannot go to school,” Charity lamented in an interview with Daily Graphic.

Meanwhile, the Crime Officer of the Amanfrom District Police Station, Deputy Superintendent of Police Amaniampong Anokye, has revealed that the case is expected in court on Thursday, April 16, 2021.

According to him, the juvenile court sits only once a week hence the delay.

It comes in the wake of ritual murder by two teenagers for riches on the instructions of a fetish priestess.

Four suspected have been arrested in connection with the case, with the victim receiving an Islamic burial on Thursday.

The case has been put before a court, and the Ofaakor District Magistrate has adjourned to April 20, 2021.
