Limited Voter Registration: NPP Organiser allegedly inflicts machete wounds on NDC Member

The organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West constituency, Sam Toys, has been accused of inflicting machete wounds on a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.

According to reports, the victim, who is reported to be a member of the NDC communication team, is in critical condition as a result of the commotion that broke out between the NDC and NPP at the Election Commission’s Agona West office in the Central Region.

According to the NDC’s Deputy Organizer of the constituency, Samuel Ametepey, who reportedly witnessed the incident, he was disappointed at the turn of events in this constituency.

He further blamed the Electoral Commission (EC) for the chaos that characterized the registration process in his constituency, adding that his party will not back down until the registration process concludes.

Meanwhile, Agona West NPP Communication Director, Isaac Somuah has denied the allegations being leveled against his Organiser.

“Toys did not hit the victim’s head with GoTa. Zion’s account is false, he was not present… It was a fight between the two people and they both crashed into a car’s bonnet. That is how come his head hit something and resulted in the wound,” he said.

“Toys also fell from the car onto the floor and they were separated,” Mr Somuah added.

The NDC communication officer, Wahab Mukaila, made it clear that his party will not hesitate to take necessary action to protect itself if the police fail to provide adequate protection.

Meanwhile, fifteen persons have been injured after they were attacked by masked men while waiting in a queue to be registered in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise at Okaikoi North.

According to the victims, the assailants took their mobile phones and over GH₵11,000 during the Sunday attack.

“Our phones, our money have been stolen. I had 150 dollars in my phone case, which was also stolen. My colleagues also suffered the same fate,” one of the victims recounted.

Another victim, Gifty Dogbe, who could not stand, told journalists that her legs gave up after one of the attackers hit her with a stick.
