Menzgold Saga: I’m Willing To Face Court A 1000 Times – NAM 1 Reacts To Fresh Charges

Source The Ghana Report

The embattled Menzgold Chief Executive Officer Nana Appiah Mensah has expressed his willingness to cooperate with state authorities as he faces fresh charges.

It will be recalled that the Attorney General, on Wednesday, August 30, slapped the defunct Menzgold CEO with 39 fresh charges.

The latest charges include but are not limited to selling gold, operating a deposit-taking business without a license, inducement to invest, defrauding by false pretence, fraudulent breach of trust, and money laundering.

Reacting to the latest development, Mr Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, expressed confidence in the state prosecution’s efforts and commended them for fair play.

“The state prosecution is doing a very good job. I see fair play. I don’t think any of my rights have been trampled upon. I think they are adhering to Article 19 (e), the presumption of innocence, so even if I’m going to go a thousand times, that’s fine.

“I’m subject to the state and whatever the state so decides, of course in line with the rule of law, I will subject myself, anytime, any day,” he assured.

Addressing the notion of being labelled a “fraudster,” Mr. Mensah said such labels often depend on one’s interpretation and understanding of complex business models.

He explained that the Menzgold business model was intricate and not fully comprehended by many, leading to varying viewpoints.

The Accra High Court is expected to hear the case on September 19, 2023.

NAM 1 has been in the limelight since October 2018 for allegedly persuading over 16,000 individuals to invest a staggering GH¢1.68 billion in his gold purchase scheme, Menzgold.

Customers were promised 10% monthly interest returns, prompting many to invest.

However, investors were locked in a distressing situation. Their invested funds were inaccessible, and they could not locate Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1) and other key executives of Menzgold.

Further revelations indicate that the Minerals Commission did not duly license Menzgold for gold trading.
