Minority To Summon Administrator Of Scholarship Secretariat Before Parliament

Source The Ghana Report

The Minority in Parliament has threatened to summon the administrator of the Scholarship Secretariat before parliament over the two-year arrears owed to the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG).

According to the Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, despite allocating a GHs223 million budget for the scholarship secretariat, they have yet to release funds for GRASAG bursaries.

While speaking at the handing over ceremony of  GRASAG at the University of Ghana, Mr Agbodza said the Minority will employ all available means to ensure the funds are disbursed.

“The Minority will, in the coming days, go through the right processes to get the administrator of the Scholarship Secretariat to answer why the bursaries of the GRASAG are in arrears for two years. Because even as we are concerned, those monies have been made available. We can only do this based on the laws,” he stated.

This comes months after GRASAG accused the secretariat of defaulting in the payment of thesis grants and bursaries due to postgraduate students.

Members said the delay by the government has made it difficult for most students to complete their academic research due to inadequate funding, which has resulted in students being unable to submit their thesis for graduation.
