Mixed Reactions Greet MCE’s Removal

A cross-section of residents in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, have expressed mixed reactions about the removal of their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, from office by the President.

President Akufo-Addo, over the weekend, announced the dismissal of 24 Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in accordance with the Constitution and the Local Government Act.

Among the MMDCEs who have been relieved of their duties was the MCE for Nzema East Municipality.

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that while some of the residents jubilated after hearing the news others indicated that the timing was wrong.

One of the residents, George Grant, who claimed he is a staunch member of the ruling NPP was happy the MCE has been removed said that the woman almost collapsed the NPP in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency.

He indicated that the MCE’s continued stay in office could have eroded the gains the party made through her predecessor, Frank Okpeyen.

“It would also have harmed the party’s chances of capturing the parliamentary seat from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in December 7, 2024, general elections,” he said.

He asserted that for the past two years or so since the MCE took office, she never initiated any project adding that, “Our MCE will be remembered for threatening to arrest party members”.

Another Faustina Arthur who corroborated what George Grant said, also remarked, “We can recall the huge gains we made as a party prior to the last general elections which got most of the residents hailing the then MCE for good job done.

“So we are grateful to the President for sacking our MCE and nominating a true party man who could help continue the development agenda of the government in the area,” she noted.

Meanwhile, some of them have also called for the MCE’s reinstatement, saying that the timing for her sacking was wrong.

An ardent supporter of the MCE, Charlotte Yankey, speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview indicated that the NPP will suffer the consequences.

“We have only about eight months to go to the polls to elect new leaders. So I was thinking the President should have allowed the MMDCEs to stay in office so that the new leader would have affected the necessary changes after the general elections,” she added.
